Does your business need another “deep clean”?

We are all taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many businesses are advertising weekly or monthly deep cleanings. Is that something your business should do as well?

There is not an official scientific process or protocol for Covid-19 deep cleaning for business. But, the CDC has issued guidelines for cleaning facilities that have hosted people with COVID-19. Transmission of the novel coronavirus has mainly been documented to jump directly from person to person through close contact. But studies do show that it can stay viable on surfaces for hours to days, depending on the material and climate.

Deep Cleaning for Covid-19

Deep cleaning for COVID-19 is similar to cleaning for other viruses that cause the flu or common cold.  But, public health officials do say that to prevent the spread of this virus, there are a few additional steps your business can take:

  1. Increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting – Because the virus can survive on surfaces, higher frequency cleaning with disinfectants that kill or inactivate germs are recommended.
  2. Use approved disinfectant products – The Environmental Protection Agency released this list of registered cleaning products that work against hardier germs, and so should work against COVID-19.
  3. Focus on “high touch” points. Surfaces such as door knobs, handles, and keypads should be cleaned every day.
  4. Make hand sanitizer available to patrons in front of entry ways and exits.
